Maybe this is less of an issue once you form a band with friends in “Rock Band,” but what’s up with the freaks you end up being partnered with when your playing on Solo Tour? Here I’ve taken the time to meticulously mold my rockstar avatar into a gorgeous, athletic male (much like myself) and I end up joining a band fronted by some lumberjack hillbilly, a female bassist from GWAR and a guitarist who should have joined up with REO Speedwagon. Well, this must be how Fall Out Boy feels…
As soon as I got the game, I went straight for the drums. Man, it is just as much fun as I had hoped and just as hard as I had feared, especially with my lack of a rhythm gene. But I will push on. This game will teach me to become the drummer I always dreamed of as a teenager (minus the groupies and drug addiction).
Having previously experience “Guitar Hero II,” I knew what to expect when I went with the guitar career, but to me it is easier and a lot better, mainly due to the fact that almost all of the songs are the original versions. And they’re songs that I like.
Speaking of songs that I like, if you’re reading this Harmonix, here’s my wish list for future downloadable content:
- The entire “Superunknown” album by Soundgarden. You already got the rights to “Black Hole Sun,” so it should be easy to request the rest of the songs. Playing the drums on “Like Suicide” would make the entire purchase worth it.
- “Pyromania” by Def Leppard. C’mon, you’re telling me that “Rock of Ages” and “Photograph” wouldn’t kick ass in the game?
- The Cult. Maybe a 3-song pack to start out with. I nominate “She Sells Sanctuary, Love Removal Machine” and “Sun King.”
- It was a good start with “Gimme Shelter,” now gimme more of The Rolling Stones. “Satisfaction, Sympathy for the Devil,” and “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.” Get to asking for permission, these guys look like they’re going to live forever…
- Speaking of the Sixties, where are The Beatles? If you can’t get them, maybe some early Oasis. They seemed to rip off The Beatles nicely. (edit: song pack became available on 1/22/08)
- How about some songs off of the Foo Fighters first album, namely “This Is a Call, I’ll Stick Around, Alone + Easy Target” and “Oh, George.”
- Here are some individual tracks I’d buy instantly:
- “Would?” by Alice in Chains
- “Hey Man, Nice Shot” by Filter
- “Vertigo” by U2
- “Turbo Lover” by Judas Priest
- “Number of the Beast” by Iron Maiden (edit: song became available on 1/8/08)
- “Whole Lotta Love” by Led Zeppelin
OK Harmonix, you’ve got your marching orders!
If you’ve played the game, sound off in the comments section about what songs you’d like to become available for download.
