I left the safety of my home theater room, as well as country, and traveled to Jamaica for a week. In preparation for this exodus, I dusted off and charged up my Sony PSP and in doing so, I was reminding of a new game coming out for it, “Patapon.”

On the flight down to paradise, I fired up the new game. I liked the company’s previous title, “Loco Roco,” and I like this one too. The art style is perfect for the PSP and I find it very appealing. I’m not sure how long this game lasts and while it’s cute, it’s kind of repetitive. You’re essentially a drum major and your beats determine the actions of your band of warriors. You know four songs: march, attack, defend and some other special beat which I haven’t discovered yet. In keeping time, you hit the various beats in time and if your timing is right, your warriors act on your drum command.

Looking at other screenshots, it looks like your warriors grow in number, encounter some large foes and even engage in a naval battle. It’s cute, fun and for the cheap price of $20, it’s title that shouldn’t be overlooked for any PSP owner.

When picking up “Patapon,” I jumped on the chance to play the demo of “God of War: Chains of Olympus” on the PSP as well. If you’ve playing any of the previous PS2 versions, you’ll be right at home. The controls work great on the PSP and despite being on the mobile device, the graphics and scale of the game look amazing. It looks just like a PS2 title in the palm of your hands. I’m sure I’ll add this to my collection when I return to the States and unlike “God of War 2,” I expect that I’ll finish this title. Poor “GoW2,” you came out just as I began falling in love with high definition graphics and achievement points…

Edit: While at the resort, I discovered a gaming lounge set up for “teens” and it’s filled with Xbox 360’s and games. The games are family-friendly titles, like “The Simpsons Game,” and sport titles. No online connection, so I guess I won’t be going my friends for the Thursday night battles. Maybe I’ll check out “Tiger Woods” or “Fifa 08.”
