Once the demo for “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed” was available on the Xbox Marketplace, I downloaded it faster than the Millennium Falcon made the Kessel Run. Although it was brief, the demo was impressive… most impressive. Ok, that’s enough “Star Wars” quotes for one post.

From the opening intro cinematic, I completely bought into the idea of why a Dark Jedi would be running around killing Imperial Stormtroopers rather than just the Jedi and other Rebels. In fact, I’m quite interested in the storyline for this game. If you don’t want any plot points spoiled for you, I would avoid watching the game’s launch trailer – I feel it gives away the whole story arc of the game.

Secretly, I was hoping the demo was going to be the opening level of the game, which is where you play as Darth Vader on the Wookie planet of Kashyyk. The level in the demo takes place inside an Imperial shipyard, which is under attack by a Jedi and Rebel troops. To make sure that word does not reach the Emperor about Darth Vader’s Secret Apprentice, you are ordered by Vader to eliminate everyone in the structure, including the Empire’s own soldiers.

Controlling the Apprentice is fairly straightforward and as you use your Force powers, you gain greater skill and damage with that power. Living up to the name of the game, the most enjoyable part is destroying the enemy with the Force, whether it’s throwing huge chunks of metal at a group of hapless soldier or using the Force to tear apart a structure and push it into an attacking TIE Fighter. You can quickly see the amount of fun and numerous ways to dispose of your foes in this game. Download it and check it out for yourself – even if you’re not a “Star Wars” fan, you’ll still find it worth a free play through.

As for me, September 16th can’t come soon enough. Now I just need to figure out where I’m going to purchase this game…
