Defense was the name of the game in the first round rematch of Texas A&M and Washington. The game was hard fought all of the way and the game was much closer than the final score would show in this 17-7 Husky victory.
A&M scored first in the 2nd Quarter with a 5:18 minute drive to take a halftime lead 7-0. Having won the coin toss at the start of the game, the Aggies were then going to receive the ball at the beginning of the 3rd Quarter. If they took another time-consuming drive to score, there might not have been enough time for the Huskies to come back from a two-score deficit. Luckily it didn’t come down to that and the game was tied up 7-7 with this 26-yard touchdown pass.
The Husky defense continued to apply enough confusion to cause the Aggie’s QB to throw at total of 5 interceptions on the day. When given the chance, the UW offense put points on the board in the 2nd half including this goal line run to give Washington the go-ahead score with 1:36 remaining in the game.
Desperate to quickly move the ball downfield for a tying score, the Aggie QB threw his fifth interception of the game and the Huskies capitalized by adding a late field goal to ensure the victory and a chance to play the #1 seeded Texas Longhorns coached by Ropoleon. The last time the Huskies met Ropoleon’s Longhorns, it was a tight fought game which ultimately ended in a 17-10 UW loss. It’s playoff time and I’m in it to win it, so to prove who’s the better coach, I will be switching over to play against the Longhorns as the Longhorns. This should ensure that the victory goes to the better coached team, not to the coach who has the more highly skilled team. It breaks my heart to switch teams, but a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do.
