THE GOOD

  • The return of total conquest mod from “Rainbow Six: Black Arrow.” This has to be my favorite multiplayer mode in ANY FPS on any console. To win, your team must control all three control points for 30 consecutive seconds. Very intense and fun.
  • You can still map your face onto your in game character. If you look as pretty as me, this means that your player could be, quite possibly, the most attractive video game model evAr!
  • The experience and challenge system is copied almost exactly from “Call of Duty 4.” You’ll always have a completely arbitrary goal to work towards (this time to unlock delicious achievement points.)

There are quite a few folks on our friends list who are new to “Call of Duty 4.” As a public service, I offer Ropoleon’s Top 3 CoD4 Tips:

1) Thinking is your enemy. If you ever find yourself planning, scheming or otherwise reasoning your way through the game, you are almost certainly putting yourself (and your team) at a disadvantage. No matter how clever you think your plan may be, it will invariably be foiled by a blindly thrown grenade, unfortunate enemy spawns (¡Que lastima!) or the Random Gods of CoD4. Truly successful CoD4 players shut down the rational part of their brains and operate on a strict stimulus/response cycle.

A dark cloud has been hanging over Thursday Game Night these past few weeks. Players have been quietly lining up on different sides of a growing chasm between those that prefer the classic gameplay of “Halo 3” and those that prefer the more frenetic action of “Call of Duty 4.” In the interest of preventing a schism (like those seen in small-town Baptist churches) I will shoulder the burden of scientifically deriving which of the two games is in fact superior.

Ah, ‘Martyrdom.’ My favorite “Call of Duty 4” perk. Forget what I said about not being excited about the ‘Perks’ system. I like it. I like it a lot. Through continuous online play, you level up your weapons and rank, unlocking new perks and challenges as you go. This is not a difficult thing to do; play long enough and you’ll rank up.
